What are the best books on passive income in 2019? Sit tight and I’ll take you through 20 of the best passive income books I’ve read.

We’re lucky in this day and age that we have access to so many different resources to help us get started in business. From online courses to educational podcasts, there are countless ways we can get the information we need to become a successful entrepreneur.

In saying that, there’s something satisfying about reading a book from cover to cover and immersing yourself in the story. I’ve found this rings true especially when it comes to educational books. Understanding the journey the author’s taken to get from rags to riches reinforces the message that anything is possible.

My 20 Best Books on Passive Income 2019

With so many books to choose from, I’ve written this list of the 20 best books on passive income I’ve read. I’ve invested hundreds of dollars and countless hours reading and re-reading these books.

Becoming a successful entrepreneur and creating a passive income doesn’t happen overnight. However, I believe that one of the best ways to get on that journey is to learn from those with experience.

Reading at least one of my 20 best books on passive income will kickstart your journey to a life of financial freedom.

1. The Four Hour Work Week

Tim Ferris is a New York Times best-selling author and is an expert on the subject of how to make a passive income.

In the Four Hour Work Week, Tim gives us the tools we need to move in the direction of working less and living more. I really like his idea of working towards building a business that supports your lifestyle.

Tim’s step-by-step guide provide us with real world examples which I found I could really relate to. Overall, I definitely rate this as one of the best passive income books.

2. Think and Grow Rich

Unless you’re new to the world of passive income, you’ve likely heard Napoleon Hill’s name being mentioned. He’s also the author of Think and Grow Rich.

After reading close to 100 educational books in the last few years, Think and Grow Rich is easily in my top 5. It teaches you that in order to make your dreams come true, you need faith in yourself. And that passion will take you far in life, as it has done for many of the world’s greatest leaders.

There’s so much to say about this book, but what I will say is: do yourself a favor and give it a read.

3. Rich Dad Poor Dad

Rich Dad Poor Dad is one of the most inspirational and talked about books on personal finance and business.

Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad is a lens on his childhood, where he was raised by his “poor dad”, but educated on how to manage money by his “rich dad”.

This story in itself is fascinating, however there are so many other learnings you can take from this book. Two of the key things I took away after reading Rich Dad Poor Dad were:

  • Rich people invest in assets, poor people invest in liabilities
  • The rich don’t work for money, they work for assets

This book is a must read for anyone interested in how to approach money and business.

$100 Startup is a great book for any would-be entrepreneur on a budget.

Chris Guillebeau shows us that it’s not only possible to succeed on a budget, but he also provides us with real world examples.

$100 Startup was one of the first passive income books I read, and it inspired me to follow my dreams.

5. The Six-Figure Second Income

The Six-Figure Second Income is a guide to building a side hustle whilst maintaining your regular 9-5. Author’s David Lindahl & Jonathan Rozek provide some great examples of informational products you can create and generate a second income from.

Admittedly, the book was written in 2010 when the internet was a little different to what it is today, but many of the principles are still highly relevant.

As an aside to the invaluable secrets and techniques the author’s share, they also emphasize the importance of not listening to the Uncle Moe’s of the world.

6. KaChing

KaChing is a great book for anyone at the very early stages of creating an online business. It’s made it’s way on to my list of the best books on passive income because it’s heavily focussed on making money from affiliate marketing and blogging.

If you’re considering online coaching, blogging or a membership based site, I highly recommend giving KaChing a read. It will give you plenty of tools that you can use today and get your business off the ground in no time.

7. Beating the Street

Beating the Street is written by legendary money manager Peter Lynch. It makes its way on to my list of the best books on passive income because it approaches passive income from a slightly different angle to other books.

I like Beating the Street because it gives us a sneak peak into the minds of one of Wall Street’s most successful investors. Peter Lynch was the head honcho at Magellan Fund for over 20 years and his insights when it comes to investing in stocks and funds are unrivaled.

I recommend anyone with an interest in stocks and investments to give this book a read. Even if you have no interest, I’m certain this book will open your eyes to a whole new world of generating a passive income.

8. Incorporate & Grow Rich

Cheri S. Hill raises a really interesting topic around legally protecting your business assets with Inc & Grow Rich.

The idea behind this book is to give you the tools you need to protect you, your family and your business from lawsuits and taxes. As you’re starting out, these things probably aren’t a priority, but reading this book could save you a lot of time, money and stress in the future.

Overall a really educational read which taught me a whole bunch of things around taxes and legal loopholes which I had no prior knowledge of.

9. Passive Income Freedom: 23 Passive Income Blueprints

Gundi Gabrielle is one of my favorite authors when it comes to personal development. And for that reason, it’s no surprise her latest release, Passive Income Freedom is on my list as one of the best books on passive income.

In this book, I liked Gundi’s clear explanation of learnings that are targeted at beginners and others targeted at advanced readers. She lays out her 23 blueprints for business that you can turn into real life passive income generators.

10. Click Millionaires

Scott Fox’s Click Millionaires is another great read for beginners in the passive income space.

I read this book when I was first starting out and it helped me learn the fundamentals of making a passive income.

Scott Fox shares so many great techniques but the one that stuck for me was that niches make riches.

11. DotCom Secrets

When I heard that the owner of ClickFunnels (Russell Brunson) had a book, I immediately added it to my Amazon cart.

Throughout DotCom Secrets, Russell Brunson shares his secret to creating successful marketing funnels and the power of different funnel systems. Since he owns ClickFunnels, it’s a brilliant insight into how he got there.

Russell is a serial entrepreneur and this book is a guide to his success. It’s a good mix of high-level strategy and low-level tactics which makes it a great read for anyone looking to dip their toe in online marketing.

12. The Unemployed Millionaire

Matt Morris’ journey from being $30,000 in debt to becoming a multi-millionaire is something I would recommend anyone read. And this journey comes in the form of The Unemployed Millionaire.

His journey’s inspiring and he shares with his readers the mindset he adopted to get to where he is now.

If you’re feeling stuck in the rat race and want to break free, snap up The Unemployed Millionaire.

13. Side Hustle

Chris Guillebeau, author of $100 Startup delivers another winner in the form of Side Hustle. Side Hustle is all about building a side business and earning extra money from it.

After reading $100 Startup a few years back, I started following Chris’ podcast, Side Hustle School (well worth a listen) and was super excited when I heard he was releasing another book.

When Side Hustle was eventually released, I was not disappointed. Chris does a great job in laying out a step-by-step approach to achieving your side hustle goal. In fact he provides a 27-day roadmap to success so that you can follow him on every step.

This book was actually one of the biggest inspirations for me to start out as a blogger. I would encourage you to do the same and read this passive income book.

14. How to Win Friends and Influence People

Dale Carnegie’s How to Make Friends & Influence People is one of my all time favorite books. It’s arguably one of the best books on passive income not because it will tell you how to make money, but it will tell you how to build relationships for success.

Dale explains that to make people like you, you need to be genuinely interested in other people, smile, be a good listener and so on. These things sound simple enough, but putting them into practice is much more difficult.

Making money is not always done alone, and to influence people, they need to like you. I would recommend this book to anyone regardless of what stage they’re at in life. It’s genuinely life changing.

15. Secrets of the Millionaire Mind

Why I enjoyed Secrets of the Millionaire Mind so much is that not only does the author put you in the mind of a millionaire. But he also provides you with actions to complete at the end of each chapter which makes the book very interactive.

Eker stresses the importance of financial education to become successful in life. Something I couldn’t agree with more.

He also makes a really interesting point, in that we all have a pre-conditioned “set point” when it comes to money and wealth. To succeed, we must break our conditioning.

In essence, if you have a poor mindset, you will never become successful.

16. The Magic of Thinking Big

David J. Schwartz in The Magic of Thinking Big has created a book that provides us with the tools we need to think big in order to become successful. An idea so simple, yet many of us don’t act upon it.

I like this book because David not only inspires us to think big, but also takes it one step further and gives us actionable examples to apply.

One thing that stuck with me from this book is not to look at things as they are, but as they could be. The author states that a big thinker always visualizes what can be done in the future.

For anyone looking to scale their blogging efforts or online business, this book will give you the tools you need to become bigger and better.

17. The Intelligent Investor

The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham is a timeless classic when it comes to investing in stocks. So much so that it’s recommended by business mogul, Warren Buffet.

Whilst this book was originally published back in 1949, much of the advice is highly relevant today. Graham provides key principles to follow when investing to ensure you’re diversifying your investment into the stock market. And ultimately coming out on top.

What I really liked about The Intelligent Investor is that Benjamin Graham provides some actionable insights into reading yearly reports and balance sheets to dig out the nuggets of gold needed to make an investment decision.

18. The Millionaire Next Door

After spending years studying millionaires, Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko gave us The Millionaire Next Door.

The Millionaire Next Door is a sneak peak into what makes a millionaire. I found it really interesting that the author’s split people into two different categories. The first being Under-accumulators of Wealth (UAWs) and the second, Prodigious Accumulators of Wealth (PAWs).

The book taught me that even if you’re earning a high salary with multiple sources of income (a PAW), you won’t have anything to show for it, unless you live below your means.

There are so many other learnings I’ve taken from this book, but I won’t give away any spoilers.

19. The Barefoot Investor

Scott Pape markets The Barefoot Investor as the only money guide you’ll ever need. And it is indeed a great guide to achieving financial freedom.

This is as important in your personal life as it is when you’re looking to start your own business.

Pape delivers his knowledge in a fun and informative way that won’t leave you feeling overwhelmed.

The Barefoot Investor gave me the step-by-step formula I needed to be financially free on my journey to success.

20. Stock Investing for Beginners

According to a recent World Health Report, it was found that those with wealth, typically invest the most amount of their money into stocks and businesses.

And to become wealthy, at least according to John Roberts, we should follow this methodology.

After reading Stock Investing for Beginners, I was amazed at how simple stock investment actually is. John arms us with the basics and gives real world examples that we can compare his explanations to.

I highly recommend giving this book a read if you have any interest in stock investments.
